Native Dragon Breeds « Thread Started on Dec 23, 2007, 8:40am »
As translated from Ancient Scripts.
A dragon's breed can be distinguished through many traits - behaviour, size, weight, build and the ability to spit acid and/or fire. Although certain breeds inhabit certain terrains, this cannot be relied on when identifying a specimen.
*Regal Copper: A Regal Copper is the second largest of dragons, weighing up to 11 tonnes and reaching twenty metres in length. When domesticated, Regal Coppers are used as transport, due to its strength and endurance. Regal Coppers are bronze, copper or gold in colour, with lighter bellies. Their legs are considerably short, but their wings are 10 metres in length and four metres in width, featuring a "torn" appearance. Regal Coppers have no ability to spit fire or acid.
Mountain Imperial: Probably the most rare of dragons, the Mountain Imperial is flawlessly black with a beautiful pure tone. They are much smaller than other dragons - reaching up to 8 metres long and weighing in at 5 tonnes. They feature the same "torn appearance" with a "broken nose" and spines following the ridge line. They are specialised for battle, due to their incredible fire power. Their wings are huge for its size, 6 metres high and four metres across.
Voliatun's Swooper: These dragons are typically 10 metres long with most of the length measuring up in the tail, which is thick for balance. They weigh around five tonnes, making them light and swift. Swooper's can be pale grey, light brown or fawn. These dragons' wings are small, but unlike other dragons have a double jointed bone at the base. This is what gives them their name, for the double joint allows them to shift their wings and perform all kinds of manuovers. These dragons can spit fire.
Bat-winged Reapers: Reapers are one of the few breeds who can spit acid. Reapers weigh roughly 9tonnes and reach up to 20 metres. They are the meanest looking of them all - a firey red colouring with horrible fangs and two curved horns at the forehead. Their wings are huge too - 12metres high and 7 metres long. Reapers can stay in the air for fourteen hours at a time, and can go with beating their wings once an hour.
Tiyancen: Tiyancen are the biggest dragons on record, reaching up to 30 metres with a weight of 18tonnes. They are black with a blue tinge, and have massive talons. These are the most favoured by aviators as they can reach speeds of up to 100km per hour. Their wings are 17metres high, 10 metres wide. They cannot spit fire or acid, but they're ferocious none the less. They are very difficult to domesticate, but strangely, in the wild, they have only been recorded to reach 27metres.
In the entire world there are 67 breeds of dragon on record, 41 of which are native to the Daritan Empire. Lorthe sports some of the rarer breeds, except the Regal Copper, which can be found on almost every continent. They have been shipped and sold to various traders, making them world wide. Regal Coppers originate in the mountains of Lorthe.
